3-D Solar System

When I first saw this item, I thought "Great...!!!". My daughter already knows the planets and the surrounding solar systems and galaxies, but, having the planets hanging from her ceiling is fun. BUT....the makers of this product promise that the planets "glow in the dark".... This is absolutely "NOT TRUE". I did everything under the sun to get those suckers to glow and I got nothing for my efforts. It's a good learning tool, it just doesn't glow like it should.... Cheers.

Was disappointed that the Sun was not included, and the planets barely glow at night. Was a bit disappointed with the kit. Still, my son has fun seeing the planets and learning all about space.

We just purchased this product for my 9 y-o's birthday and she is so pleased! She is very interested in space and asked to transform her room into a "space room" and this was a great find. All of the planets glow and it looks especially neat in the dark. She loves going to sleep under her glowing planets and stars. I think this toy is appropriate for children as young as 2 and as old as a teenager (maybe even higher - heck, I'd love it in my room and I'm almost 40!) We've also purchased a moon, the Uncle Milton Moon In My Room and a book, 13 Planets: The Latest View of the Solar System (National Geographic Kids)- I also recommend both items in addition to this product. Educational and fun!

The toy was just what I was looking for my son's room, but once I got the planets hung they did not glow in the dark the way I thought that they would. If you put your hands around the planets they will glow but standing alone they do not. :-(

I bought this for my 6 year-old son's room. He loves it and has memorized the planet names. I found it simple to put together and hang up and it's really cool looking.
On the downside, as others have mentioned the planets do not glow well. After being exposed to light, even a flashlight aimed directly at them, the planets only stay glowing brightly for maybe 3 minutes. Also, the plaents are not appropriately sized in relationship to each other. I had to explain this to my son as well as the fact that besides Mars and Earth the colors seem to be randomly chosen and not true to life. It's a great toy but not a great learning tool.
