I've had this thing for a few months now and it works great, never had a problem. I connected a hose to it so it can continuously drain into the basement drain. I set it for about 55% RH and it hits it dead on. Before I got this unit, my basement had a RH of 75+, and was causing mildew/mold problems. After I put this thing down there the basement became habitable again (allowed me to build a man-cave :) ) .
I get some water in the basement when it rains heavy, and this year it as started to smell.
And i dont want mould, So I purchased the soleus 70 pint dp2-70-03 with no regrets.
I put it on medium fan and leave it for 6 to 8 hours and it extracts about a gallon of water from the air.
After use the humidity goes from 65 to 45 and no damp smells.Also very quite.
So far this dehumidifier has worked great! It does a nice job of drying out the air in my cool basement. The humidity setting works well, and the price I got on Amazon was fantastic compared to similar units and the price quoted in Consumer Reports. The only reason I am not willing to go to 5 stars is that I've only had it a couple of months. My last unit was a Frigidaire, which worked almost identically, but then sprung a small coolant leak and became useless, so that is why I'm holding off on a 5th star.
I was on the fence about purchasing this dehumidifier for my new home based upon some of the other reviews. I am very pleased that I went with my gut & bought it. It works really well! Almost instantly my basement felt less damp & lost its musty odor. I live in New York where we have very humid summers - I had to dump the bucket about 3 times a day (I didn't use the hose attachment because it is too far away from the sink.) This thing is a workhorse! Since Autumn has come, I am emptying the bucket much less frequently (not even once a day). I am very happy with this dehumidifier's performance. It is a little loud, but that just comes with the territory of owning a dehumidifier. Would have given 5 stars but it is not made in the USA.
This product is quiet and effective on low. My only problem with it is that it produces quite a bit of heat. (We're using it to supplement our air conditioning.)
