During those days that central office heating cannot keep up this heater does the job in a 10 x 20 office. I would not use it as the sole source of heat in a room bigger than 100 sq. ft. during a cold winter. It has thermo-sensitive coloring on the front grille that turns orange so you know when it is putting out heat. Two years now without any problems.
We bought this heater to use in the morning when we don't want to heat the entire house (or even a zone). I had done a fair amount of research before settling on this heater, but I was still concerned because many reviewers commented that it didn't work more than one season. I don't want to jinx it, but this is our fourth season and it continues to work just fine. It throws off plenty of heat and the variable heat and fan settings give flexibility. Wish that I could choose a default heat setting, but it's a minor inconvenience to cycle through to get to the setting I desire. It's a litte annoying when it turns off when I pick it up to change the direction it is pointing in, but since it's a safety feature designed to prevent damage in the event it is knocked over, I can live with it. Very satisfied with this purchase.
This heater does a fabulous job of warming the room I am working in. However, it does make me nervous as the plug and about 12 inches of the cord warms up considerably - almost too hot to touch. This is very dangerous. I am NOT using an extension cord. So I only run the heater in short bursts, then turn off and unplug it. Holmes needs to rework this product!

In 2010 we moved into a newer home and realized that the one room above the garage was not insulated as well as the rest of the house. During the winter it is the coldest room in the house. That was a problem because it was the room we had chosen for our twin babies. We looked at many different heaters hoping to solve the problem. Based on previous reviews and what seemed like a very reasonable price, we decided on this model. We are so happy with our decision!
The unit runs VERY quiet and has been used in many different settings since we purchased it. The most common room it is used in measures 14'x 18'. It is able to keep that room nice and warm during the winter months. The electronic thermostat can be set at 65,70,75,or 80 degrees. Some have complained that to be a poor design but we have found it to be sufficient for our needs. We typically turn it on in the evening when the twins are going to bed. We have it set at 70 degrees and that works perfect. In the morning their room is nice and toasty compared to the rest of the house. In the morning we turn it off. Our twins do like to play with it and turn it on because it makes a beeping noise when turned on and as it cycles through the different temperatures. The safety switch on the bottom works just like it should. If the twins knock the heater over it automatically turns off. We used to worry that if we had it on the floor it could scorch or burn the carpet but now we know that to be an unfounded worry. We have used it on the carpet, on the dresser drawer and have never had any "heat" damage.
We love this heater so much that just a few months ago when we went on vacation we took it with us because we were going to be in a guest room in a basement. Our previous visit had left us freezing at night. With the heater packed with us we were ready to face the cold guest bedroom hoping for a different experience than before. It worked perfectly!! We kept comfortably warm. In fact too warm but it was our fault. The room we stayed in was very large measuring around 18'x25'. We assumed with it being a much larger room we should increase the temperature to 80. We woke up in the middle of the night in a sweat and had to turn it back down back to our normal 70. It was so powerful that it kept that large room warm for our whole week visit.
It has been one our best $40 dollar investments. I roughly would estimate the total amount of time that this unit has been used is right around 3,000 hours. It is still going strong and hope to have many more hours of use. I would recommend this again and again.
I love this little heater. I've had it for about 4 months now and it's been keeping my room nice and toasty throughout the winter. Almost like an oasis in the desert. Except it's winter, and it makes things warm. It was a little quieter when I first got it but now it makes a tiny little noise although I found that cleaning the filter by rinsing it out with water and leaving it to dry has helped with it. The noise now is still very low though and doesn't distract me from doing other things at all like reading or playing games. This is definitely an excellent heater and I always recommend it to my family and friends.
