I thought it would be easier to assemble, but it wasn't. It's not that it was horribly complicated, but the instructions were very vague and almost like they were missing some pages. After reading some reviews on here, I felt better about having to go out and buy wood glue to finish the job. Now I think the bed is great. The only problem to I hate the sharp edges of the bed. I have two huge bruises on my legs because of the accidental bumping throughout the day and night. But that is an easy fix too. After everything, it felt more like a craft project. :) I would still recommend this bed for those that want a cheap bed, but want it to still look nice.
This product has a certain level of craftsmanship: The board lettering to identify which one is being used in the instructions is printed on a few, stickered on others, and handwritten on some. The ends of the vertical boards that make up the platform do not line up. And of course it is packaged with minimal protection or foam, the main platform boards are the exact size of the box so they will most likely arrive with broken corners from transit, like mine.
Also, with Amazon Prime I was told this package would take 5 days to arrive. It took 4 days to even ship then another 4 to arrive. However, that dissatisfaction is not reflected in product review.
This came from UPS yesterday. It was shipped very well, original box covered with thick cardboard and plastic. One of my mainboards had a small chip in it; however, it is where the mattress sits so it wasn't a big deal.
As far as the instructions go...the other reviewers must have even gotten a different set than me, or placing two dowels in a piece of wood for 1 step is too complicated. Parts are solid. It went together in about 1.5 hours with a friend. No problems at all. Im guessing the people that said "OMG INSTURCTIONS TOO HARD" never used a hammer or screwdriver in their life because it is incredibly easy.
Keep in mind that the hinges in step 20ish are already attached to the brackets you place earlier. If you actually flip through the book and do some reading before you jump into it, you'll see how they come apart and go together.
Use some strong wood glue, I used gorilla, at the joints and it'll be solid. You wont find anything near this quality / construction for a similar price.
My cousin bought this bed for his apartment recently and I was drafted along with one of his friends to help put together his whole bedroom set from South Shore. Boy, was I lucky! First of all, I think the bed frame came in over 30 pieces, before opening it i thought "Oh, this is really heavy, i guess it's made with quality." Jesus, was I in for a shock. My cousin neglected to inform me that the bed was made out of crap wood and was built by Mussolini HIMSELF (the design was found by historians and put on Amazon to be sold), only Mussolini would think this bed was up to his standards. The designer of this bed (and south shore products) must hate the children of the world. First of all, where do you even start? After the 6 gruesome hours of building it, and trying not to have a panic attack with the directions written in broken Italian and drawn by my 4 year old nephew. The monster was finally created! Now... the bed frame, it looks okay, i'll give them that.
The drawers are useless on the bottom, you have to prone like you are defending the shores of Sicily from an American invasion in order to open them, so don't plan on putting anything you'd like to reuse in them. If you ever want to move this bed, it'd be literally impossible. I hope you have a hammer to blow this up, (put it in one of the drawers) because there is no way you can disassemble it and put it back together, this bed frame my friends, it's a one way trip to hell. If you care only about looks, then it gets the job done. If you want a good design, easy to put together, and care about the mattress staying on without sliding off, then i recommend getting a bed frame from someone else.
My next apartment i am going to buy Mao Tse Tong's bed (made in china) not some Canadian-Italian bed frame.
Is this what Canada has come to?
I give this product two stars because it is a feat of engineering. I think they were trying to make a Lamborghini and somehow ended up with this.
